It was 5°C, windy and sunny in Barnsley on 25 February 1972, Chicory Tip were at number one in the hit parade with Son of my Father, the miners strike had just finished after crippling the British economy and John McSeveney made way for Johnny Steele to return as Barnsley FC manager as they dropped to Division 4,

But, amidst all this doom and gloom, a miracle was happening. A little spark burst into the atmosphere, a spark that was to be an essential part of the Cindercone eruption some 30 years later.
