The Tofoo Co. Case Study

Tofoo and Cindercone - A Recipe for Success

Introduction
In the world of plant-based foods, tofu has emerged as a beloved and versatile ingredient. It’s no longer just a staple in vegetarian and vegan diets; it has earned a place on the plates of countless food enthusiasts. One company that has played a pivotal role in bringing the best of tofu to the masses is The Tofoo Co.

The Early Days
The Tofoo Co. was founded by David and Lydia Knibbs in 2015, but the story begins earlier, with their passion for tofu. Inspired by a trip to Japan and the delicious tofu dishes they encountered there, The couple became determined to introduce high-quality tofu to the UK market.

Setting Up Shop
They started small. He didn’t have any prior experience in the tofu industry, but they were driven by a desire to create the best tofu possible. With a humble factory located in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside, The Tofoo Co. officially set up shop. The company’s location, surrounded by lush green fields and fresh air, provided an ideal environment for the tofu production process.

Quality and Craftsmanship
From day one, The Tofoo Co. placed a strong emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. The company’s tofu is handmade in small batches, using only organic, non-GMO soybeans. This commitment to quality ensured that The Tofoo Co’s products stood out in a market often saturated with mass-produced, inferior tofu.

Innovation and Flavor
One of the key drivers behind The Tofoo Co.’s success has been its commitment to innovation. The Tofoo Co. team wanted to show the world that tofu could be more than just a bland, uninspiring ingredient. They started experimenting with flavors and textures, introducing marinated and smoked tofu variations that brought a burst of excitement to tofu-based dishes. This innovation opened up a world of possibilities for chefs and home cooks alike.

Tofoo and Cindercone
Over the years, The Tofoo Co. has grown substantially. Their products can now be found in major supermarkets across the UK. In order to achieve this growth, the company called on Cindercone to set up the EDI functionality integrating into their ERP which, at the time, was Sage 50. Dave and Lydia had worked with Cindercone in previous businesses and knew they would be able to help. As the company grew, Cindercone was able to integrate with SAP Business One when the company changed its ERP system and following that, integrated their chosen Third Party Logistics (3PL) partner.

The Tofoo Co.’s journey from a small Yorkshire factory to a thriving business is a testament to the power of passion, innovation, and dedication. Using the best ingredients and partners continues to help build on this recipe for success.

“Cindercone have been there from the start providing support, not only on setup but also on the day to day management and as we’ve grown having that support network there is obviously critical to make sure we have stability”
